Day of the Dead Night Couple Session in Mexico City

Cinematic night portraits in Mexico City from playful Indiana-Jones vibes to elegant Catrina faces.

The story
We started in one of Mexico City’s oldest neighborhoods, Chimalistac. The first look he wore was a tuxedo jacket and tie; she wore an elegant dress with a sunflower Catrina headpiece, and he added a gold mask. By the old church, the door opened and warm light glowed from inside, it was perfect for intimate, timeless frames.

From there we wandered through cobblestone streets, quiet and narrow,. After dark the couple switched to an Indiana Jones–inspired look (hat, leather jacket, rope), and we played with colored light to add a cinematic mood.

Why these locations
Chimalistac carries a unique sense of history: volcanic-stone arches, narrow passages, a historic church that glows beautifully at golden hour and after dark. While Coyoacán adds color and graphic lines: cobblestones, overhead cables, painted walls and art galleries. and it feels very. Mexican.

As night settled over the neighborhood, the couple changed into an Indiana Jones look. He had a hat, a leather jacket and a rope like a prop lasso; she chose a playful, adventurous outfit that matched the mood.

The energy flipped from classic to bold, I brought out colored gels and shaped the light for a cinematic feel.

Playful lasso moment on a cobblestone alley — overhead cables and painted trim, Coyoacán.

For a couple photo shoot with a Day of the Dead theme, we wanted to honor the spirit of the holiday—its origins, color, and quiet beauty—so we chose two of Mexico City’s oldest, most authentic neighborhoods: Chimalistac and Coyoacán. Moving from golden hour to blue hour and into night, we worked with warm light, strret lights, colored gels to keep the mood cinematic and true to Día de los Muertos.

She’s from Colombia and he’s from the United States. They met while traveling, and this was their very first time in Mexico City, they wanted photographs that would hold the feeling of discovery, something different, something they had never experienced before.
